Sponsorship Opportunities
The Peterborough Historical Society offers numerous opportunities to sponsor programs and events organized by the PHS and Hutchison House Museum. As a sponsor, you benefit from a marketing opportunity and help recognize outstanding achievements in preserving and showcasing Peterborough’s heritage. We give sponsors public recognition in event publicity and a notice with logo on the Society’s website, on social media and in the monthly Bulletin, published ten months of the year.
PHS Annual Heritage Awards
As a means of encouraging programs and activities that commemorate our rich history and of acknowledging achievements in the fields of cultural, social and architectural history, the PHS presents Annual Heritage Awards. The awards recognize outstanding accomplishments in heritage preservation and promotion and are named in honour of Peterborough citizens who have made significant contributions to the broader heritage community.
PHS High School History Awards
Every year the Peterborough Historical Society awards a prize to the graduating student who achieves the highest mark in history at each Secondary School in Peterborough County. The candidates are selected by the staff at each school and the prize is presented at the school’s convocation in the spring or the fall. The awards are recognition of academic excellence and encouragement to understand the importance of history and heritage in building a vibrant community.
PHS Monthly Bulletin
The PHS Bulletin is published monthly for ten months, September to June. In addition to reports from the President and from the Curator of Hutchison House Museum, it includes notices of forthcoming public lectures, museum events, and short articles of interest on diverse themes in Peterborough’s history or of heritage interest. The Bulletin is distributed to a membership of 150 either as an e-document or by mail.
Monthly Speaker Series
For seven months of the year the PHS presents a lecture on a topic relevant to the history of Peterborough and its region. Speakers represent a broad range of expertise and interests, including historians, writers, teachers, archivists, business owners, journalists, environmentalists, heritage specialists and many others active in community leadership. Lectures are on the third Tuesday of the month in September, October, November, January, February, March and May. Lectures are open to the public with free admission, though the Society invites donations at all its events.
Hutchison House School Programs
Every year Hutchison House Museum provides curriculum-based programs for schools for grades K-8. A dozen different programs focus on aspects of settler life in nineteenth century Ontario with links to a wide range of curricula: visual arts, language, science, history, social studies, health, physical education, geography, drama and communication. The programs are all hands-on and interactive, offered in different formats: on-site at the museum; in class at the school; and virtually online.
Virtual Tours and other Programming
As part of its outreach program, Hutchison House is producing a number of virtual tours and short videos for use to engage online visitors. Many of these productions when posted on social media will reach an audience beyond the local community.
Special Events
In addition to its regular schedule of heritage events, Hutchison House will undertake special projects in public programming, such as special exhibits or celebrations, and will provide appropriate sponsor opportunities.
