General Programs

Scottish Tea

Scottish Tea, served on the terrace in the period garden or indoors in inclement weather, includes fresh baked scones, preserves, whipped cream, oatcakes, and tea, lemonade or iced tea. Complimentary tours of the 1840s restored stone house are included with the teas. The cost for tea is $12.00 for adults and youth, $8.00 for children under 10 and children under 5 are free.

Summer Workshops

Get creative at our Thursday morning summer workshops! Each week we will focus on a different crafting or historic cooking activity. Suitable for children ages 6 to 12. Please make sure to bring a peanut-free snack to the workshop. Advance registration is required. Please call 705-743-9710 or email to register. $20 per child.

Thursday, July 10th: 9:30 am to 12:00 pm: Christmas in July

Thursday, July 17th: 9:30 am to 12:00 pm: Under the sea

Thursday, July 24th: 9:30 am to 12:00 pm: Rock Art

Thursday, July 31st: 9:30 am to 12:00 pm: Tie Dye

Thursday, August 7th: 9:30 am to 12:00 pm: Pioneer Day

Thursday, August 21st: 9:30 am to 12:00 pm: Bugs

Birthday Parties

Cost: $150 (Minimum of 5 children/ maximum of 10 children)

Most appropriate for children 6 to 11 years of age. Not recommended for children under 5 years.

Duration: 2 hours

Programs: Choose One

Hearth Cooking

  • Children dress in costume (provided by museum)
  • Make Welsh cakes from scratch to bake on the hearth
  • Play pioneer games in the keeping room

Pioneer Craft Activities

  • Kids create their very own craft to take home
  • Children dress in costume (provided by museum)

Craft Choices: Choose One

  • Rag dolls
  • Kaleidoscopes
  • Finger puppets
  • Simple old time toys: Ie. whirly gigs, thaumatropes, or wood choppers
  • Play pioneer games in the keeping room

Secondary Activities: Choose One

  • Guided tour of the museum
  • Scottish country dancing

Food & Presents: Following the birthday program the children will remove the costumes and get ready for food and beverages.  Parents are responsible for all of the food (except hearth baked).

Time will be given after the activities for the party to move into the Harvey Connal room for food. Gift opening may be held in the keeping room or Harvey Connal room.

Hutchison House Kitchen: 2 ovens, stove, fridge, freezer, commercial dishwasher, cutlery, plates, cups & saucers, glasses, napkins.

Parents may opt to bring party plates, etc. to fit with a theme or colour scheme of their choice.
