This volunteer-run event features a delightful menu of ham, Cornish pasties, three types of cheese, rustic bread, chutney, pickled onions, boiled eggs, and a dessert of apple crisp with custard. Advance registration is required for this event, so don’t miss out! Phone the museum at 705-743-9710 or email to reserve your spot. Advance registration closes by end-of-day Wednesday, April 27.

May 6, 2022Calling all history buffs! Do you love visiting museums? Do you want to go behind the scenes at the home of one of Peterborough’s first doctors? At Hutchison House Museum’s Young Curator Camp get a taste of what it’s like to work at a historic house museum. Design your own mini exhibits, get a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum, and learn how to handle artifacts. Ideal for youth ages 13 to 17. Advance registration is required. Speaker Series: 100 Years of Tennis History in Peterborough
May 17, 2022Speaker series: Christopher Dummitt
Sport attracts great popular interest and is the subject of serious historical investigation. The centenary this year of the Quaker Park Tennis Club is an apt occasion to explore the place of tennis in Peterborough’s past. To mark the occasion Christopher Dummitt will speak on the origins of tennis in Peterborough and of the Quaker Park Tennis Club, about which he has written a short history. His booklet, entitled “Tennis by the Otonabee: A History of the Quaker Park Tennis Club,” will be published imminently by the Peterborough Historical Society in partnership with the Quaker Park Tennis Club.
Christopher Dummitt is Professor of Canadian History at Trent University who writes on history, politics and culture for both scholarly and popular audiences. He also plays a lot of tennis.

Spring Plant and Yard Sale at the Gilmour Street Garage Sale (Off-Site Event)

May 28, 2022The Hutchison House volunteers will host a Spring Plant and Yard Sale as part of the Gilmour Street Garage Sale. We will offer a wide selection of perennials, rock garden plants, and house plants just in time for spring planting. Be sure to come early for the best choices. Household items and attic treasures will be on sale as well.
Donations of plants, household items, and attic treasurers are welcome. Anyone wishing to donate items for the yard sale or spring plant sale are asked to please bring them to Hutchison House between May 24th and May 27th so they can be priced on Friday prior to the sale. Please note that any plants that are donated need to be labelled.

Please note that this is an off-site event! Our spring plant and yard sale will take place during the Gilmour Street Garage Sale.
