The Peterborough Historical Society is pleased to announce a new scholarship for graduating high school students. The $1,500.00 scholarship will go to a student graduating from a high school located in the City of Peterborough or in Peterborough County. “As tuitions are rising and OSAP payments are being cut, it’s more challenging than ever for students to afford post-secondary education,” says PHS Board Chair Don Willcock. “Establishing this prize is one way the Peterborough Historical Society can make it easier for students with an interest in history to pursue their goals.”
This year’s inaugural scholarship will be in memory of Jean Cole. Jean was a former president of the Peterborough Historical Society, and was involved with PHS and Hutchison House Museum for over 50 years and heritage in the Peterborough Community for even longer.
Students are asked to fill out an application and attach a 1000-1500-word essay on the designated topic. This year’s inaugural topic is “What Does History Mean to You?”. Applications must be received by May 30th, 2026. The successful student applicant will be notified by June 30th, 2026. The application is available on the Peterborough Historical Society’s website.
Applications can be submitted via email to . For more information, please contact the Peterborough Historical Society by emailing or by calling 705-740-2600.
