What is an Urban Park For? A Panel Discussion on Jackson Park

Speaker series: Robert Clarke, Terry Hawkins, Karen Carter-Edwards, Richard Scott

The discussion will examine the history of Jackson Park from its industrial origins to an entertainment and recreational park, and on the challenges facing the park today. This promises insights into one of the City’s vital assets at a time when the pressures of development underscore the need for sustainable urban greenspaces. The panelists include Robert Clarke, award winning author and resident expert on the movie industry; Terry Hawkins, former Academic Superintendent of the Peterborough County Board of Education and early resident of Bonaccord Street; Karen Carter-Edwards, retired history teacher and local historian; and Richard Scott, retired planner with Parks Canada who worked on the Trent Severn Waterway and the Rouge National Urban Park.
